Hello Urbana Elementary family and friends! My name is Heather Ovenshire and I am one of the two Art Teachers here at Urbana Elementary. I am very pleased to announce that I will be joining the Urbana Elementary Staff full time this year. This will be my third year teaching Art. I am originally from Frederick County and a graduate of Linganore HS. I graduated from Evangel University in 2006 with a Bachelor's of Art in Art Education and a Concentration in Intercultural Studies. I am a practicing artist and come to you with much enthusiasm a diverse background of experiences.
I am honored to work with the young artists here at UES. Elementary students possess an amazing unhindered creativity. It is my goal to inspire the students here at UES to tap into their full artistic potential. I maintain a spirit of excellence within my classroom and set high expectations for student acheivement. It is my desire to maintain a classroom environment that is safe, caring, and structured towards student learning. Most of all, I hope to provide the students here at Urbana with a fun and memorable art experience.
Besides art, I enjoy outdoor activities, reading, singing, learning the guitar, serving my church and community, learning languages and traveling. This past summer I spent a month in Africa; I traveled to both Mozambique and South Africa. It was amazing!
