Welcome to 5th grade.  As a 5th grader, your child will become more independent and responsible for his or her learning.  It is my privilege to work with your child this year and to prepare him or her for the challenges of middle school.

Urbana Elementary has been my home for most of my teaching career.  Both of my student teaching experience and a long-term substituting position occurred at Urbana.  The following year, I was hired to teach 4th grade.  After three years, I moved up to fifth grade.  I have been teaching for 11 years.

I attended Frostburg State University where I obtained an Early Childhood/Elementary Education degree.  I also obtained my Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum from Hood College in May of 2008. The best way for you to contact me is through written notes in your child's agenda.  I check agendas daily and will respond the same day.  Also, I am available by phone from 8:00-8:30 and 3:45-4:45.  Phone messages and e-mails are checked throughout the day.

I view my classroom as a community of learners.  We learn how to work with and learn from others.  Respecting and accepting the view points of each other is one of the main focuses in my room.  Cooperative learning is used throughout my room.  In addition, independent reading and writing takes place everyday.
